Defining Data Literacy for College Students
Georgia State University Library is excited to be launching the PIDLit initiative with generous support from New America and the Public Interest Technology University Network (PIT-UN), which will expand programs promoting data literacy and career preparedness with a particular focus on reaching first-year students and underrepresented groups.

In this conversation about the Public Interest Data Literacy (PIDLit) initiative, panelists from Georgia State University and their interuniversity partners will provide an overview of program goals and gather feedback from panelists and attendees as to what constitutes “data literacy for the public good.”

Goals and Objectives:

Identify and define the key components of data literacy
Encourage interuniversity collaboration on data literacy programs

Discuss ways data literacy resources can empower students
Identify strategies to recruit first-year students and create student buy-in

Differentiate between progress points of a successful data literacy curriculum

Identify ways to incorporate diversity, equity, inclusion, and public interest/social justice efforts
